Ponta Delgada, 24 February, 2012 – Day 2 of the Sata Rally Acores offered another battle for the top position between two Scandinavians, Mikkelsen and Hänninen – having put in an excellent performance again, the Norwegian driver remains top with a 16.2s lead. Red Bull's Hermann Gassner is fourth, Sepp Wiegand of ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland who is making his IRC debut is fifth.

The morning part of today's programme saw the Sao Miguel island take on a typically oceanic coat – a heavy rain resulted in cancelling Stage 8 and shortening Stage 9 by nearly a half.

Commenting on the event after Day 2, Juho Hänninen says: “I made a mistake in today's second stage (360), but otherwise we kept up with Andreas all the time. Anyway, the most important thing is that ŠKODA holds first and second places before the final day”.

The opening event of the new season of the IRC ends on Saturday with five stages (85 kilometres).
